Finally got around to doing more to these B1 heads. I did very basic guide boss work, blended the ex seat into the chamber and bowl, more bowl work and some short turn work. I did not really do anything to the port yet.
Intake side, I blended the valve job in some to the bowl and chamber, guide boss work and short turn work as well. This is all very basic stuff, and netted some real flow:
lift int. ex.
200 170 126
300 254 172
400 315 219
500 357 253
600 382 275
650 391 291
After 650 lift, the intake port drops down to 378 and the air speed above the short turn is 420fps! Very fast. This is how I would leave the port for a smaller cid engine, like a 440-480 incher. Port speed at the pushrod at .500 lift went from 245fps to 270. With the intake on, the port speed at the port opening measured 312! But I haven't ported it yet so it's still small.
The intake did help the head pull to .800 lift, so you see once the intake is ported, the intake port should not stall, and velocity in the intake tract will be high considering the reputation these heads have for being big and slow...
This is all on a 4.350 bore, 28", and I used a 2 1/4 pipe on the ex.
Intake valve now has a 30° backcut.
I'll pour an intake port and the chamber tomorrow and post the cc's.
