The key is a comination of machining and piston choice. Going .040 over is nothing in a stock stroke engine. Those that say otherwise are new at this game. .020 on the crank is not a huge deal either, unless you are planning to really hammer on it in a heavy car. Get decent pistons, and have the block milled to 0 deck for whatever you buy. A warning, that may take a bit of milling...lol They now make B wedge drop in stroker kits too, but, without sonic testing the block, I wouldnt go that route. I know some stout 383s that out run poorly engineered RB strokers. Sometimes it doesnt pay to spend.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

They mains on mopars are bigger than most Chevys so turning them under size isnt the deal. Reheat treating them is expensive and not that many places do it. But I've built 3 451 strokers using stock 440 cranks all were in the 600+ HP range . One of the nice parts of the 440 crank in the 383/400 block is that you cut down the counter weights to clear the block. This takes almost 4 lbs off the crank. With Eagle rods(I know Chinese) or other after market rods and Diamond pistons the bob weight comes down to under that of a stock 340. How about 451 cube small block that revs good. I havent bored to many 383s but most early engines till 68 or 69 were fairly heavy casting so .040 is no problem. My old 413 could be bored .070 over. I know a guy that sonic tested a 67 318 truck block he was able to over bore to 340 diameter with no problems .I believe that is .100. 400s though are thinner casting. At .040 I would pour the block with block fill to support the this walls. Good parts fit better and are cheaper in the long run. Kits are ussualy cheap for a reason. And its not because they want to do you a favor.

i only had totake .018 off to get zero ...
YMMV
Yea i guess it needs to be assembled up and measured..Pistons will be in this week so i will know soon..
take one piston and rod combo and move it to the 4 corners of the block , pic the number at a corner and tell the shop where and how much , whe nthey square it all 4 corners should be the same .
i had an extra 383 rod so i had my local shop hone the small end so i could get the pin in without pressing anything as i was waiting for the rods i was actually going to run to arrive from florida , but you could just have your pistons put on your reconed rods and just pick one to use ...
