The input shaft can be swapped out to the newer style.

There is a LITTLE more than just that ...... simplest thing to do is to find a later model donor trans and swap-out the guts.

The only parts needed are the input shaft and the reaction shaft support when using '67-'70 parts for the 24-spline upgrade, the front clutch drum is also needed when using the '71 and later parts.
