Sounds fun! What does the car weigh, and does it still have the NASCAR spec cam in it?
Yes, still has small 248/258 cam in it..
should weigh somewhere around 3150 ish or so with him in it, maybe 3200 at most.

Scot doesnt get on here much, but the car by our estimates is liable to turn anywhere in a wide ET area. We arent real sure how far the 8 inch convertor that was behind an old motor of his will flash behnd this motor(but suspect it might be light convertor wise)wont know until he tests it. If the stars were aligned, the car could run mid 9's, if its way off it could go 10.30-10.40. My personal guess is it will run 9.70-9.90 like it sits before he starts dialing in the combo. He will have to dial in the suspension/shock, etc, play with launch rpms and see where the motor likes being shifted at, a whole lot of variables Nobody has yet to do this, so who knows, but i cant wait to hear that thing in the water box

He is figuring to zing it 8500-8800 or so, he is hoping it has ENOUGH gear BTW that 735 ponies was with a 390 carb on it ..it has a carb shop 950 on it now that dyno was done at Arringtons shop.... Scott took one of the heads off and had a guy pretty famous around these parts(Jerry Arnold)flow it, and it stopped just a smidgen short of 400cfm

Good luck! I REALLY hope to see some video clip of your run if possible. Hopefully you hit some mid 9 seconds at least for beginning What gear you run and what stall converter you have? My car combo is similar of yours... One more time - good luck!

Sounds like you have an old Busch/Truck motor (those 390's really flow over 600), with a restrictor plate cam, did you already dyno to 8800 rpm with that 248/258 cam?

Not sure on the dyno info i know that is what Arrington told him, but not sure about where it made what power at.
Will be interesting to see how it runs and how the convertor he has will work.

It's the other side (springs) I'd be concerned with, those old plate motors didn't turn that kind of rpm.

he actually went 135.60 mph the car laid down the last couple of hundred feet and trapped at 8700 from the look of things, it appears that a trap of 8000 will be in the cars wheelhouse. he is going to take the 5.13 gear out and put some 4.56 gears in before next week, should get it real close. he left at only 3400 from the line, and short shifted it into second gear, not sure he was going to run it out on the first and only pass. my opinion is that with the correct gear, good air, and leaving at 4500 ish(and considering he hasnt even looked at jetting or put a timing light on it)the car should dip into the 9.40's rather easily with an electric water pump on it. not to bad with that little 248@50 "puppy" cam in it..........mighty impressive, and as they run those things on 100 octane fuel, and he was running 110 in it, i have no doubt it will like a little more timing than the 30-32 degrees we suspect it had in it last night....he was happy, and considering the frontend is a custom one off piece, to go straight down the track and have the car hook on a 28 inch tire was impressive.....

Great to hear. Nice numbers, especially 60` time! As we dont still have no special race track ( covered with this "glue" ) here where I live, we are useing old airfields for racing, then I want to ask that on what kind of race track you were? Was it "covered with glue" Hopefully you understand what I mean... You may take a look of our race track conditions here : http://dragracing.ee/pictures/v/Speedest+Nightrace+2009/?g2_page=1Just seems to me that 60` time is impressive with 10,5" slick. How much you think helps water pump swap from mechanical to electric? Did someone made vid clip maybe?

track was good...Tom Block took his blown Avenger down it and went 6.89 at 199.80,just shaking it out. the pump swap should be good for real close to a 1/10th..that is what i saw, and several others i know who have made that swap as well. really, considering what his liabilities were last night, the car should go 9.40's without working up a big sweat. it really was done about 1100 feet, and i think the car will go 1.29-1.30 60 foot when he gets a chance to play with it.lot left on the table with this little monster notable head wind last night and probably about 3000 foot of air...

Forget the gear change, sounds like it needs valve springs and a cam swap!
Seriously though 400cfm on a 358" motor should want a bunch more then 8,000RPM!

I am standing also in front of question about rear end. First - go with shortened rear end (with 14.5" wide tires) Second - stay with normal width rear end (with 10.5" wide tires) I hav`nt had change to weight my Charger because plastic front end is not ready, rollgage should be ready by week or so, my R5/P7 motor is still in USA, lot of small parts is still missing so I have no idea of coming race weight and that makes rear gear choice hard for me. I first thought that 5.`` is the way to go but seems that 4,56 might be enough?? Converter stall coming around 5300-5500 RPM-s

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Dodge-at-Greenfield_684899.htmFound this website the other night when I was looking to see if anyone else had a R5 in a drag car. I bought a roller cam version from Arrington's and put it in my Dart with a powerglide, 7000 converter, and 538 rear gear. The car has gone a best of 9.70 @ 139 mph. I've been tinkering with suspension and gears. You guys are right.. these motors like to rev. Change this weekend will be a Pro Systems 1000HP, replacing a 950 Holley. The link at the beginning is to some video a guy took earlier in the year....he still thinks it's a 340.

Scott's engine had a baby camshaft in it, around 248 @ 0.050" if I recall. The torque peak may not be as high as some of the other engines. The dyno sheet I saw on one of these engines had a torque peak at around 6800-7000 with a camshaft that was smaller than usual. AL.....

what gear ratio and rpm are you working in on a pass?my cam is 275@50 and 792 lift 109cl.pulls hard in good air if it will cross at 8900 or 9000.my out out of the box 950 was real hard to get right because the motor seamed always want to pull gas from the acc pump shooters.Have you noticed any thing like this?youre car is a rocket, just fishing to see what i am missing

He has a 28 inch tire, he originally thought it would like a 5.13 gear, but didnt,.Went to a 4.56 gear, and car now stripes at close to 8 grand, shifts it about 7800 waas way out of power band with the 5.13's the convertor being redone should pick the car up a good bit, he will have it out to see mighty soon.
