Hi,

I am putting together a 499 cube street stroker motor that should be making about 600hp. Should I be looking at cylinder head studs. I currently am using ARP bolts. Does anyone know the correct part number for studs when using stealth heads or edelbrock RPM heads? I think it's Arp 145-4206.

I would also like to use studs on the rocker shafts. I can't find a kit for these. I think I need to buy individual studs. What are the required lengths I would need?

Hughs Engines has a nice hold down kit with studs, nuts, washers, and billet steel holddowns.
They also have the studs you want. I chose not go with studs on my 493 just because if I needed to remove the heads in the car it would be easier. I used the Manley head bolts that came with my heads.

Gus,

Very good point. I might have to keep using the head bolts. I don't think I can remove the passenger side head when using studs.

I went with bolts as well for this very reason. I need to look into the Hughes rocker hold downs as they look very nice!

Most ARP studs can easily be removed with a 3/16 allen wrench.

My combo is very close to yours; street/strip 499", Edelbrocks, 11:1, flat tappet solid, 520RWHP. Using bolts, not studs for nearly 9 years with no problems.

You might be able to remove the lower heads studs in the car work shruggy One thing about the head studs and headers is if you have a set of big tube headers the head studs may hit the header flanges scope, been there done that runaway I run head bolts on my current bracket car because of that issue shruggy
