everyone, hate to be such a rookie! I've never messed with a 413 internally. It has the funky small end pushrods and lifters in it now. i want to put a comp cams XE268 cam and lifter combo in it (already have the set). can i simply sway out the funky pushrods and use a set of 440 ones? thanks, Jp in the land of Oz.

I agree.Did a swap on a lot of them.My kids 52 300 is one.We ran Summits pushrods for a RB.Check your rockers close also.They have a habit of wallowing out.Rocky

You can run the small diameter pushrods if you want. But you cannot run the larger diameter ones with the smaller lifter setup.
To be honest, push rods are cheap enough that it's probably best to update to the later ones from a 440.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.
