The oil slinger slings oil away from the seal. It is not designed to be a source of lubrication for the timing chain or fuel pump eccentric, the drip tab is. On cop spec LA's the return from the oil cooler keeps this stuff lubed. At some point Chrysler quit installing them altogether. You can probably not put on in, but if you have one, why not is my opinion. On a related not though, A833's that did not come with a slinger do not go back together if you add one, DAMHIK.
