Dam good question because it is shielding a heck of a lot more than slinging.

Good question ? ....

If it was more a shield than a slinger ...why-then didn't the college-educated engineers call it an OIL SHIELD then ?

...

If the umbrella seal on a valve stem doesn't seal squat, rather it shields the valve guide from excessive oil so why do they call it a seal??? The slinger and that umbrella seal do the same thing. They keep oil from accumulating. put it in, leave it out, go to bed and don't loose any sleep either way. Good night.
