I think I agree with all of that. What I've seen from my own testing is that I can keep moving the peak HP number up by getting more aggressive with intake porting, cam specs, etc., but the peak numbers are only changing for the last 1000 rpm. So the car might not be any faster with a 750 hp engine than a 700 hp engine, especially if you aren't shifting it right at the redline all the way down the track and running it out the back door.
