I used to do my own suspension valving on my motocrossers, back when the parts became available to hobbyists to tune the shim stacks, etc. I know my Rancho 5-ways are seriously UNsophisticated in design, although they certainly have their place as a bang-for-the-buck shock w/ CalTracs.

How are the Afcos better than the QA-1 / Vi-King style shock to justify their additional expense? Is it that their damping settings are more appropriate out of the box? Do they use a more sensitive or sophisticated damping mechanism? Is it an overall quality of materials improvement?

Also, who is "the shock nerd" I've seen reference above? Thanks. - Brad
