You might be able to get away with that. I don't do that though. hydraulic floor jacks many times leak down especially if they are older. I always like doing something solid, even if it's a chunk of 4x4 stood up, or a pile of bricks, a concrete block stood up with something on top. You're not talking about more than a few hundred pounds at worst, you just want some stability in what you create.
