Let me bet that the new one is a chrome Mopar replacement, yes? If so they need to be calibrated I cut my tube down with a tubing cutter to get the stick to read correctly after filling the pan up and PRIMING the motor I have a motor on the stand right now that has a aftermarket replacement 1970-71 6 quart Mopar oil pan on it, the sump is five inches deep and ten inches long



You'd think that MP chrome "replacement" stick would have a small note about the fact it won't read the correct level using the 6 QT pan to give someone the heads up on that situation...What is that stick indexed for ??? Anyhow....Install the 6 qt pan with that chrome stick and even 5 qts reads "about 1/2 a quart over"according to what's marked as full on that stick...Figure out what the filter you run holds then add the correct amount of oil and remark the stick..
