Correct.
I ran the newer style Mercedes fan (no heat sink on fan) with no controller at all.
It's the aftermarket and early units with the heat sink that have issues being connected directly to power.
You can keep your cutesy Contour fans. I'll stick with the 500 watt Mercedes unit.
