Does this happen often w/ Scat cranks? I was going to order one today, until I read this.

Would I have better luck with a K1?

Kinda whizzes ya off, even if they are cheaper cranks.

I'm of the opinion that scat cranks are pretty good pieces.
I've bought a cast 4 inch from them and also a forged 4 inch superlight which is a gorgeous piece for the money.

Both were well within spec. I agree with a previous gentleman's post regarding luck of the draw. To think there is ANY company that can keep tolerances we demand ALL THE TIME in mass produced stuff is impossible. Mistakes will be made and there will be inconsistency. You can't avoid it.

But in reality, this is NOT A PROBLEM within reason and is why we check things in the first place.

As far as brand goes...individuals often dont want to admit their high dollar piece came out of spec...I recommend asking a machinist since they look at a crank for what it is and not the logo etched on the weight, and it's their job to make it fit. They will likely give you a far more unbiased opinion.
