The shift rods are the same, the pistol grip is different.

I believe everything is the same console to non console pistol grip shifters, except the shifter handle itself. The console shifter handle has about a 4 inch bend to divert the handle through the center of the console, and then it's bent back towards the driver. The non console shifter handle has a half inch offset at the bottom of the handle, and is straight the rest of it's length. The shifter box is set up to shorten the shifter throw,to compensate the long shifter handle.

What body type are we talking about here?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

First thing I would do is be sure the linkage adjustments "are" correct.

Worn out bushings or incorrect adjustment will cause problems.

AS long as they are shift rods for a 1970 B- body pistol grip !
regular Hurst stuff is different , linkage from a basic Hurst will not work .

Thanks for all the help. Its a 69 Bee with a 70 pistol grip...Found out only 70 shift rods will work....So going to rebuild the shifter and put in the correct rods.Ive always had to have a 4 speed in my muscle cars but.....Going to go with an automatic in my 70 Bee....Im getting to old to push in the clutch anyway.

There's a bunch of information on stuck shifters/transmissions and shifter adjustments here:
