Working w/ a 79 volare...
How can I tell which one I have? It's not a lock-up trans, that much I know...
does it matter?
Trans needs to be rebuilt, need to know so I make sure I get the correct parts.

904 = /6 998 = 318 999 = 360
At least in that era. All flavors for the same trans though.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

Looking here: http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/transguide.pdfI'd say your number is 41 30972, which is late 79 904 from a 318. Found that link in another trans ID thread here: https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...rue#Post6466924As far as ID to get the right parts - It depends on how much you'll be replacing. Look at the listing for various parts kits, the application dates will tell you how far they cover, and the exact year/model might not matter (like on a seal/gasket kit). But if you're putting clutches in, you'd need to know if it was a 5-disc police unit or not.
