I was refering to the round canister under the hood. It will suck up moisture like nobody's business in a matter of minutes, rendering it useless.
Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

that dash top new is around 260-280 $ you can get a cover ,, if you dash isnt completely gone @ 125-150$
I found a new oem dash on ebay for $196. the old truck still runs good but everything is falling apart around it. the whole thing needs replacing but I have to make it work somehow. just can't afford a new one.
I need to keep mine running also... sort of a specialized vehicle for my trailer/trailers

I just like mine. Didn't really like the front end/grille when they first came out. It's grown on me. So has the 40K I'd be missing if I bought another.
Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

Cheapest I've seen aftermarket dash pads for Rams is 280-300. Don' bother with another factory one unless you don't mind it cracking again. Some real junk, thin plastic from the vendor; Textron, I believe. Seen this on most 94 - up Rams in the bone yard, along with Neons. Someone ought to get together a class action suit against Chrysler to replace them all. MANY MANY Rams have this problem, over many years. The pad is also connected by molded in studs to all of the air duct tubes and such. Real pita to just replace the pad without pulling the whole dash and undoing all those duct connections. Mine thankfully all snapped off. I glued that sucker back together with about 8 tubes of Devcon plastic cement and put a cover over it. The dash surround bezel even more fragile and brittle than the pad.

My dash is busted to hell and back. My truck came from Texas, and has never seen a garage up here.
I have a molded cloth cover over mine. I can't remember what it cost but it wasn't all that expensive.

anybody ever had to change a heater core in their ram 3500? mine is a 97 and the dash is shot. started cracking and falling apart when I tried to remove it. is there a link or something to help?
...feets linked this about 3 days ago.

All I can say is WOW!!!!!! If mine starts to leak it will see a gallon of bar's leak before I do that. Good post, I'll file that away for a nightmare.
after looking at that I say WoW also in those pics it looks like you dont even have to remove the top dash cap what a freakin nightmare. can't believe they couldn't design a better way and I agree the dash cracking issue is pathetic at best.

If it's like my '00 Dakota, it sounds like the process is very similar. Replace the heater core for sure too, it will be leaking.
you would think with todays technology we could make a core that would never leak. my home a/c coil (trane) started leaking after 3 years. they said it was a common problem. they replaced it with a bronze coated coil and said after that treatment they haven't had any problems.
