68 is a transition year. You may have a Leece Neville model or a prestolite model. If it's a LN model and it has 3 wires ( blue,brown,red) at the plug end then it is a 2 speed. If it has 4 fours in the plug end ( brown, blue , red , and green) then it is a 3 speed. See picture of a 2 speed below. Your 3 speed switch is a must if you are running a 3 speed motor. A replacement motor will come with all the wiring already soldered on. Just plug it in. "Lastly - if I need a new motor where's the best place to buy one? I don't need anything that looks original, I just need it to work."
