Bunch o' Wiper Motor questions (68 B-Body) - 08/05/10 04:23 PM

Nearly got caught in the rain yesterday so I've decided maybe its time to attack my Wiper motor and figure out why it doesn't work. I have a bunch of questions before I get started.

How do I know if its a two speed motor or a three speed? I read the other day that a 3 speed switch won't work with a two speed motor and vice versa. I installed a 3 speed switch when I did the cluster a while back, because of all the ones I had laying around it looked the best. I didn't realize it mattered.

Or - is there some way to tell from looking at the switch plug on the harness that it's 2 or 3 speeds?

The wiper motor itself does not seem to have any plug-in connections. They are all hardwired from the harness. If I replace the motor, how do I connect it? Does this need to all be re-soldered up or will a replacement come with some kind of pre-wired connections that I'd patch into my harness?

Lastly - if I need a new motor where's the best place to buy one? I don't need anything that looks original, I just need it to work.

Thanks!

68 is a transition year. You may have a Leece Neville model or a prestolite model.
If it's a LN model and it has 3 wires ( blue, brown, red) at the plug end then it is a 2 speed.
If it has 4 fours in the plug end ( brown, blue , red , and green) then it is a 3 speed.
See picture of a 2 speed below.
Your 3 speed switch is a must if you are running a 3 speed motor.
A replacement motor will come with all the wiring already soldered on. Just plug it in.
"Lastly - if I need a new motor where's the best place to buy one? I don't need anything that looks original, I just need it to work."

I am sorry but I cannot help there as I sell only fully resotred motors. My name follows my product.

If you need any more help , please email me or call if you wish 450-656-5438
If you email me a picture of your motor , I can idenify it properly and we can go from there.

If you have a Prestolite model 3 speed it will look like this.

If your car is a very late build you may have a 2 speed like this.

Same plug for 2 and 3 speed at the dash harness.
