I keep reading these posts about guys with worn lobes on their cams or worn lifters, Does anyone other than me leave a magnet or two in both the oil pan and Trans pan?

In the oil pan I have two, one at the rear and one right next to the side drain plug and pickup.

A flat magnet in the trans pan definitely because you remove the pan regularly. A magnet tip on the eng oil pan drain plug works but I wonder that it's not large enough to be in contact w enough fluid to do much good. I'd like to epoxy a large chunk of speaker magnet in a corner inside of the pan & the only thing that would worry me is if it would keep the filings stuck to it until sometime in the distant future when I would be pulling the pan and I would think yes as some magnets have alot of pull and one of those round specialty ones that go around the filter I think is as good as you can get w this.

Why not epoxy a magnet to the oil filter?

I think those specialty ones that go on/around the filter have alot of area and alot of pull and with oil entering the small holes at the top of the filter all around the case then migrating inward thru the filtering material that you would want a magnet that goes all the way around the filter to affect as much oil as possible

Take a mopar trans pan magnet and magnet it to the end of the oil filter. Then put a neat dab of black rtv covering the hole [in the magnet] to ensure it stays attached to the filter.

Am I wrong in assuming it's better to "catch" the debri in the pan with a magnet or two Before it gets sucked into the pickup tube then to the filter?

I just don't understand the magnet on the filter.

MY THOUGHTS also !

ALSO .... if the BIGGER stuff gets into the screen .. it can restrict the flow.

Doesn't take much of a chip to lock up the oil pump, found that out the hard way. Be best to put a magnet in the pan, IMO.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

In the pan is the best, both is even better yet especially since the wrap around filter one can be easily switched when you change filters

Why not epoxy a big magnet to the outside of the pan near the drain plug instead.
That way when you drain the oil you canpull the magnet. Then let teh crud flow out.
