What type of induction? If its a carb..you really shouldn't need to prime..But most mech injection setups like the Flying toilet doesn't have a accelerator pump.So pump the pedal does nothing, and with those mech belt driven fuel pumps, the engine doesn't spin fast enough to prime them up well.

I run an alky carb and a belt drive pump. Priming with gas REALLY helps starting... eliminated kickback, burned up starters, etc. I do it every time. It also keeps engine running long enough to spin the pump up and fill the bowls. Alky motors can be cold blooded till they get some heat in them.

I have the same set up on the tractor and it always starts better with a shot of gas. Our last pull this year it was only about 5 degrees Celsius and without a shot of gas at that temperature it will start eventually but like Wayne says it is hard on the starter. I usually only give it a shot on the first warm up of the day.

Why does Ethanol or Methanol have a hard time lighting and E-85 doesn't?
Even with 15% gas in the E-85 I still have some problems to get it fired up if its below about 40-45 degrees without pumping the carb 4-5 times, even then it still farts back through the carb some..... thats why there is winter grade E-85(they change the blend to about E-70... 30% gas for winter)
