I run an alky carb and a belt drive pump. Priming with gas REALLY helps starting... eliminated kickback, burned up starters, etc. I do it every time. It also keeps engine running long enough to spin the pump up and fill the bowls.
Alky motors can be cold blooded till they get some heat in them.
