Do the fuel line mod over there at www.slantsix.org
I also made an aluminum heat dissapation plate from some sheet aluminum and 2 of the thicker base gaskets. It helped more than doing the fuel line mod, which left me with the same symptoms.
The ideal way is to do both of those mods and add a return line from a 3 nipple fuel filter to the tank to bleed off the residual fuel pressure between the fuel pump and the needle and seat, once the car is shut off.
This bypass line reduces the volume of gas that drips into the intake when the car is shut off and the fuel boils into the intake causing hard starting condition. The fuel in the carb is still going to make it in there, but at least the presurized fuel in the line can't keep flowing past the needle and seat to add more fuel to the problem, because the presure will have been relieved and that fuel sent back to the tank. It also affords some cooling of the fuel by allowing some circulation.
I need to replace my fuel tank anyway, and bought all the parts to do that and plumb the new return line at the same time. Now, I just need to get out and install it. The heat plate eliminated most of my hot start problems.

I personally think this is this biggest joke out there, It didn't do jack dooky for me. I think it's more of a gas problem than anything else. I have pics of the plate that someone made on the / board, one of these years I'll get around to trying that idea. Maybe even wrap the manifold with headder tape to keep the heat down.

I shot my fuel line and carb with an infared gauge on my Dart without the mod. 180*!!!!!!! It is hot before it gets to the carb.
My Duster had the problem too. I did the mod when I went 2bbl. No problems. I have never shot temp on the Duster.

Also check the heat riser. I'd suggest doing a full on tuneup. Most of those little things get a basic plugs and points and keep running. Get everything set up, new ignition parts, freshened carb, clean all the grounds and wiring connections, lube all the moving parts, and it's amazing how they respond to some TLC!

Crank it off & lock it there. 10 BTDC might get you started. .010" intakes. .020 exhausts
Good advise here. I went 19.40 with a stock '68 V200 when I first bought it. When going thru everything, I found the heat riser on was stuck shut, timing was at 4* before with 24* in the dist(28* total), the valves averaged .013/.025, all of it going out a 1.875 exh pipe. I freed up the riser, set the timing to 12* before with 18* in the dist(30* total), reset the valves to .010/.020, went to a 2.25 pipe and cheap turbo muff. Went 18.10 next time out.
