I am building an industrial 413 for a ramcharger that will be mostly an off road toy. My real question is what would you motor guru's do with this motor to get it a little more to date? This was a complete motor with only 22,000 miles on it. I also have a complete 383 motor at my disposal in my garage(use those heads?) I was thinking new pistons to get some more compression dispite the lack of being able to find some really. All info is appreciated and thanked

IF you do not plan on rpming the motor more than 4,000 or so ... it is the best piece you can get. But I would UPgrade the compression, cam and fuel delivery. And KEEP those heads.

Yes sir, I've been looking for awhile for a Mopar site. My budget will be however much i need to get it running right. Compression is my number one priority. I'm just having trouble with getting it... By saying to keep the heads do you mean to stick with the huge water pump assembly too? I'm looking to make this motor rather torquey as it will be hauling around a 7000lb truck. Any cam input?

Your budget ...to spend maybe 1k$ for pistons? ....How much compression do you want ? .... the OEM "industrial" 413 has a pathetic feeble compression ratio. Some who have actually run the figures say it is closer to 6.5 than it is to 7 to 1.

My initial plans are to set this motor up to pull as much as 19,000 lbs ...and run premium fuel - if I have to. YES ..I am talking about using those-heads with that huge water-pump. Those heads are KILLER for a tow-rig.

Cam ? ... I am still collating on that. I am considering a hyd roller - high-lift, fast-rate cam .. but my concerns are valve-spring life.

Well for compression I am aiming for anywhere around 9-10:1. If it goes higher that's perfectly fine with me, as long as it is still within a reliable state.

Inside of my heads, there are little wires in where the water flows through. are these normal for these heads?? just seems like a no no. And i have no idea how they got in there. I can get pictures as well.

I don't think that you can get more than middle 8's or so compression ratio with the flat-top pistons. Most of the blocks have a fat-deck-spec and if you clean the comp chambers up ... you pick-up major CC's there.

Those wires ? ...are in every head I have seen. It maybe has got to do with something like the "electroylis" process ??

I pulled a 413 from a motorhome and dropped it in a 93 RAM, hung a truck 4-speed behind it. I rigged up a turbo off of a diesel semi on it, it woke it up big time. Cheap and very easy.

the wires inside your head are problably from they were poored at the factory.

The sand molds were held together with metal wires
