I wouldn't be as afraid of the engine being as its from an known engine builder as I would if it was "joe racer", but I would rather put that money into building an engine myself. Thats just me, but engines that I don't see going together or have my hands on worry me. You just hear too many horror stories. I understand that is not an option for some, but even if I ordered an engine I think I would want to at least be involved in the setup.

I agree with that also , old tech build , should be a 4.25 stroke crank with BBC spec rods plus coatings that aren't really required and I'd be curious if they were really in there , plus I would want to WITNESS the actual dyno session on the actual motor ...

I agree, I could build that engine for around that price with a aftermarket block. And going with a cheaper stroker kit, end up with 572 cubes

Thanks guys!!
Our plan was to build a 500-512 stroker using a 400 block. Logistically it's been tough getting the time set aside to work on the build. Living in Ontario, Canada parts are more expensive to buy and ship. Also, I know of a few machine shops around but most seem to cater to the Mustang(ford) crowd.

We have a fairly strong running 383 with some good reusable parts to build our extra 400 into a 512. I'd much rather be apart of the build and not spend $14500 or $16500cdn if I don't have to.

Can you guys recommend a good shop in the Toronto, SW Ontario, area that have experience building Mopars?
Thanks!!

The member on here that bashing Speed-O-Motive had some serious credibility problems. He apparently was a scammer and constantly changed his Moparts screen name to cover up some of the shoddy deals he had in the classifieds. Most of what he claimed about the S-O-M motor were lies.
'68fastback' can fill in some of the details.

I have been using a shop in Aurora. They do build some Mopars but they mainly do stock car stuff and cylinder heads. I just have them do machine work and cylinder head freshen ups and I assemble the engine.

I'll be dropping a block off there next week.

A few years ago a buddy hydro locked a 360 stroker he got from them , He had a bad carb , flooded it and bent a rod cranking , He got it as a short block for around 3k , I fixed it for him and cant say that anything was out of spec or poorly done, not my choise of parts but thats what they said was it for 3k,I am not defending the builder but IMO there are two sides to every story and its not really fair if the builder cant represent himself , as far as the big stroker goes, I dont think its worth the big bucks outa a stock block

Me 3 !

I am a little suspicious of those dyno numbers my self, that is a lot of power for a 500 turning 6000, I would expect just a tad less power and a much higher rpm. Not many motors can make 1.5 hp per cube at 6000

Muscle motors advertises some "Killer krate" engines that sound pretty reasonable.

That wingnut is still on here after burning one member on a car and trying to do the same with another car. He always attacks the truth.

But for that amount of money check around especially on here you should be able to maximize your money in these times. Good luck.
