Okay here goes, I just purchased two 4973 1971 Thermoquads which were advertised as parts carburetors. One is complete, one is mostly complete. The air/fuel mixture needles are broken in both base plates. I am thinking am easy out to remove the broken off needles. or drilling and re-tapping? Either way I need to purchase new air/fuel mixture needles. Does anyone know the part# or size of them? I see many years for them but not 1971 which I know if a one year only animal. Thank you !

Can't help you with part numbers, but take a look at the attached section of the Carter TQ Service Manual. If you want the full PDF you can grab it HERE.

In fact, I've got a couple more things sitting on my Web server, so check these out:

1) 1972 TQ Mopar Reference Booklet

2) 1982 TQ Mopar Reference Booklet

There were two types of idle mix screws used, and while it does NOT spell out the details and/or differences for the '71-only air circuit, one could expect this to be a reasonable assumption. Further on, when you successfuly extract what's stuck in there right now you'll be able to measure this.

Years ago I was told by a very knowledgeable individual that the 71 TQ's were based off the carter competition series thermoquad's. I have also read the same in several articles. Might be of some help wink

Maybe he needs one for a correct 340 application. 1971 Thermoquads are a one year only application, guys are always looking for them.

That carb turned strong 340 Stockers into record-holders - like the car in my sig pic.
Many a '70 got '71 trim to take that advantage.
Had one on a 408" SB street Duster that was done by Demonsizzler, and it was utterly perfect.
And yeah, good ones are $$$ to the right guys.

CAB you know better than that. 71 is the best factory carb ever.

From the stock guys, 71 carb is faster than later carbs. 71 is a total different animal. I one good one from 2 cores to use if I run 71 TQ or 70 AVS.

I do have a old carter book from the 70's and a bunch of carb parts but they are not organized frown Seriously doubt I would have the mixture screws. Metering rods, jets, a few AVS cores (bare) If you get in a pinch PM me with your needs and give me few days to dig through what's there.
My intent at some point is to try and sell all as a lot wink
