Came across something I've never seen today, which isn't surprising since I've never had my hands on a 426. Buddy of mine owns a '69 Super Bee (former drag car). He told me the alternator bracket broke, which it did. BUT all my research says that a street hemi uses the same brackets and bolts that a 440 uses. The problem is his heads don't have a boss or bolt hole for the long bolt to go into so somebody fabricated a bracket that finally cracked under the stress. The question is, what heads does he have? Is there an off-the-shelf alternator bracket that will work or are we left fabricating something better?

I asked another friend of mine (George Longacre, for those who know him) and he didn't recognize them at all.

Thanks.

What he has is not correct. Looks like the mount was milled off. I bet that top alternator bolt will line up with that hole on the milled off lug. Need to pull a valve cover and get a head casting number.

My bets it was milled off for some sort of dual race distributor.

Nope. Look closer. that hole is a dimple that is at about a 45 degree angle to the front of the head. Both heads are the same configuration. Nothing was milled.

Then pull a valve cover and get a casting number. I still say they are milled off on both heads.

Probably won't bother at this time. No matter what we need to come up with a rear bracket to mount the alternator anyway. Might worry about the casting number if the valve cover ever has to come off, but not until then.

Yeah, that's what I've been seeing, but these heads don't look milled or ground in any way. We'll just make a bracket to bolt on and move it on down the road.

That dimple you see is all that remains of the threaded hole that was the mounting bolt hole.

They've been machined off on a 45 degree angle and what you see is all that is left of the boss.

And that's why I was trying to show that you were correct since it shows that in your reply in the quote. laugh2
That it was milled off whether the OP wants to believe it or not. whistling

Well it looks like it could be milled down. He can either build another bracket or sculpture a new mount from epoxy and jb weld.

Probably milled off to clear a special distributor. K heads have the threaded boss. I have K-heads on my Hemi in the road runner

Yeah, but if they were ever on a race car they would probably do both heads to be able to put them on either side.
