I’m getting new axles, will 5/8 studs work with wilwood rear disc with park brake? Old screw in studs only have a 3/16 thick head, just wondered if there would be a clearance issue with shoe hardware. Thanx.

Not sure but I have 5/8" studs on my street car and it has SSBC rear disc brakes and an parking brake and had no issues. But again not the same set up. The rear of the stud does protrude a bit, uses a locking jam nut, maybe 3/8" stick out on rear.

Yea I see the jamb nut is too thick for my application. I did find that strange has a 5/8 screw in stud with a 0.215 thick head which will work, plus it has a locator sleeve to center the rim on the studs. Thanx for the reply.

Yes they do I actually have a couple sets. Can measure the head on one gimme a minute

The screw in stud is just under 3/8" total stickout behind the axle,

Thew shank style studs, and I just measured three sets, two strange and one from Mar Williams are all just under 3/4" stockoout past the rear of the flange.

I am not a huge fan of the screw in ones as they use a screw in "shank". Just a personal preference.

I have no other choice but to use the strange studs.I’m getting new mark Williams axles made up with both stud sizes. Present axles have 1/2 strange screw in bolts which are slightly bent.

I've had the same bolt-sleeve 5/8" studs in my Strange axles over 35 years and no problems. Grantid, my car is just a stock eliminator car but I've never had any problems. Keep the nuts torqued tight and you shouldn't have any problems, after all there's quite the difference between 1/2" and 5/8" in strength.

so you are going with the 5/8" studs with the 1/2" screw in shanks or 5/8"-5/8" screw in shanks ?
if getting new axles, why both stud sizes ?

They are a bit of a PIA to install. I know since they are in my axles. That said, no issues since.

If it needs good aftermarket axles, it needs 5/8" studs. That's a no brainer.

Nothing wrong with a 5/8" screw in stud I just PREFER a shanked stud of the correct length for the wheel I am running. Kinda like a 4 lionk or ladder bar bolt, it need to be completely on the shank not on the threads is all, I also like to keep the studs as short as possible. But then again I have run a few sets of titanium studs and bolts before. If you want some sticker shock but alot of weight savings smile

I saw those titanium studs, definitely a shocker. Moparx, I was going 1/2” with arp studs originally but, I would’ve had to grind off most of the heads for park brake clearance and Mark Williams offered both sizes so I left it at that.

What wheels are you guys running with your 5/8" studs. I'm learning that wheel options are kind of limited with the 5/8" studs.

As long as they are not an acorn seat wheel they should work with the big studs. This is providing the wheel has enough room around the lug to use the proper spacer and larger nut required. Both my street wheels and race wheels needed no mods when I moved to 5/8 studs.

I am speaking for the 5/8 drive lug with the smooth shank on the stud and fine threads on the end. I know there is a 5/8 fully threaded stud that I believe is used in some circle track stuff and I have no idea what works with those.

What wheels do you run on the street and what do you race with? I've got Draglites now, but looking to go a different direction. My 5/8" studs have the 11/16" smooth shank if I remember correctly.
