what was condition of trans? why apart? clutches welded together??

My guess is it rolled the teeth on the fibers... Pull the tail housing, rear bearing and governor housing then pull the whole mess out the front. That way you can persuade them a part easier.

Could also be a galled input shaft bushing holding the output shaft pilot hub.
Try turning the trans face down on a hard floor, lift a couple of feet and drop it to shock the parts loose.

Its a TB tranny with a aluminum drum, basically it lost reverse.

Yes, and when it's missing, the output shaft pilot will bottom out in the input shaft and peen over...trapping it in the input shaft bushing.

Bronze (bottom right) is preferred for performance builds, the fiber (bottom left) are known to fail probably because of excessive input shaft free play. If either fail there should be broken pieces in the pan.
