Anyone have info on who makes a good /low windage race oil pan for a 540?
Looking to reduce parasitic losses as much as possible , have good oil control when wheels up, good oil pressure curves etc.
Lots out there for Chevy's, not finding much for mopars . this engine will have oil pump in standard location, mellings HV pump.

Lots of pan builders out there, some fly by night, some really good. I had a bunch of pans built by Charlie before he retired. I've also had Kevko build several pans for me over the years. There are some billet rail guys who build Mopar pans also but they tend to be much more expensive.

Here is the big dyno pan that Charlie built for my 514 race engine. Charlie was great to work with. He built really nice stuff, didn't take very long and didn't charge a fortune. He knew what he was doing and the pans worked when he shipped them to you.

Here are the dimensions for one of the pans Andy showed that Charlie made for me. Its been a good pan for me. There is a front baffle, a rear bolt in baffle, and a swing trap door below the center link tube. You can see the baffles in Andy's picture.The factory dipstick location will not work. A dipstick tube was fabbed to fit in the right side kick out. Its calibrated to read oil in the pan, not the engine itself. If there are 7 qts in the pan it never fluctuates. Even at 6 qts the only time I saw anything was on hard braking. The center link hole may need adjustment for your engine placement. But a good welder should be able to copy it.

Thanks guys, your all a blessing.
Last two seasons i worked pretty hard at reducing parasitic losses and we picked up good mph and lowered 60fts and et .
Now that we are building this BMP block at 540 ci , i'm trying to do my due diligence with oil control, windage.
Someone on here about a year or so ago ( might be 2, im old) mentioned an Engine masters oil pan shootout so, i went and found it- was amazed. Talked to some engine builders with dynos that confirmed this wasn't a fluke, it matters, 20-30 hp power of mattering in some cases .
There is a plethora of good pans for the chevy and ford crowd and, yes, i understand why but, never imagined the pickings would be so slim for us Mopar guys, not on oil pans anyway.
So, as usual, i come here and get some links- thanks guys, i honestly don't know what we little guys running mopars would do without this site, you folks.
Yes, we know this will be expensive but, 20--30 hp at this level always seems expensive- grin.

Windage is an issue with a BBM for sure. Oil in suspension because of the design of the pan and skirted block is an issue for sure. Poor windage control will exacerbate that for sure. Billet Fab, Moroso, Williams Perfromance, can all make custom pans and also have anumber of shelf units that are pretty nice as well.

Custom pans are easy to build for a Mopar big block since the pan rail is flat. I have CAD files for the pan rails so when I had Charlie build my pans I would send him the billet rails. I had a local water jet guy cut the rails out of 3/8 or 1/2 inch aluminum plate for Charlie. If you go that way talk to the builder since they'll most likely want a soft sheet aluminum not a hard billet aluminum. I think Charlie always wanted a 5005 aluminum but I'd have to look at my notes.

I know it's been mentioned but, not sure been processed. The price of a good performing oil pan usually comes with added cost of an accumulator system. I wouldn't run a good wet sump pan (e.g.- it picks-up power and minimizes aeration) without one.

Stan at Stef's did a fantastic job on the custom dry sump pan he built for my 499" Bonneville wedge. Buit exactly to my external dimensions, fits perfect. If you design it he can build it.

Do you have a crank scraper on the motor now? If not, you need one up
I build my own out of sheet metal and shoot for .020 to .045 clearances from the rotating parts, I build and install it on the passenger side, 1.0 inch holes for oil back at each main web and one at each end of the scarper for oil drainage: wrench: wrench uptwocents

When Dave Koffel was running B engines in Comp there were some blocks with the sides milled out from the pan rail up to the main cap parting line between the mains. There were buckets attached to the side of the block open at the bottom to the widened pan.
