Went to Speedworld in Orlando today for test n tune
Girlfriend made 4 good passes 11 teen range.
Last run she got to staging lane and no forward gears...
Car backs up perfect but any forward gear feels like neutral.
493 wedge in 69 GTX. Full automatic valve body 727 built by JW transmissions back around 1999.
Yeah it has about 30,000 street miles and maybe 2000 passes.
There is a 3000 stall Turbo action converter in front that has been in this car about 20 years.
Any ideas? And how do I confirm?

What color is the fluid? If it's brown and smells, you lost the forward clutch pack.. If it's red, time to pull the pan to see what's in it.

Forward clutch. (rear clutch). The drum with the input shaft sticking out of it. Take it apart.

I'm assuming manual VB. If not, look at the roller clutch as well.

NVM, just saw automatic. Manual low should apply the rear band. No go in manual low, forward clutch. Either way, it's coming out.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

YEP it lost the forward clutch, forward clutch is applied in all the forward gears so it takes a lot of abuse. Direct clutch is applied with the low band for reverse. If you do the work yourself, make sure the sealing rings and grooves on the stator support are in good shape, high RPM and just a little bushing clearance will damage them, causing an internal pressure leak, taking out the forward clutch.

Could also be a stripped front planet on the output shaft. Been there.

The newer design belleville spring is less prone to cracking/breaking. But it does have a different height, so use the matching clutch piston.
