No roll cage (although it is on the agenda). Street car that he drives on a regular basis. 67 Olds Cutlass that his parents bought new. He had an aftermarket big block Olds built. Made 840 hp on the dyno.

I figured it would run high nines given that its a street car without a race suspension and should be relatively heavy.

9.12 @ 149 mph+! I find that crazy!

It might be lighter than you think- I got burned on a bet with my buddy on his 66/67 Buick Skylark. Big car, all stock, hubcaps to ashtray and that d*mn thing weighed like 3200-3300 pounds. They do have factory 4 link rears and full frames so with aftermarket uppers and lowers, it might hook pretty well. Still a very impressive number from your buddy for sure.

840 hp @3200 lbs. Thats what it should run. My geuss is its lighter than you think. Perfect example of accurate dyno #s matching track performance. Dyno's are a measuring device and need to be calibrated often to stay accurate. They are also easily fooled by entering in inaccurate data points. Temp, water grains, barometric pressure all change results. So you guys who have "840 Dyno tested HP" and the car doesn't perform near that good, what does that tell you?

friend up the street from me has a '72 (?) cutlass. he had a 496 in it and did some 11:20"s (he may have snuck a couple teens in there) at 123mph, thru the mufflers and pump gas. it has edelbrock heads with serious work, torker intake , AED carb, hydraulic roller, 3.73 rear, turbo 400. it's set up for a bottle but don't think he has any times with n2o. full interior; bet it's at least 3700lbs. think it dynoed 575+hp. currently has a 540 in it, dynoed 670hp. no good times yet with the 540. i would think some kind of power adder would be needed to get into the nines with full street trim. it does take some money to get big performance from these cars, but they can be impressive. i don't think it makes any difference which brand they are you can make those old in-line valve dinosaurs run'

Rocket blocks. good 4 bolt blocks with bigger bores. 4 or 5 grand to buy one. i think big cranks are an issue. my friend had to get a callies billet made; $3500.

You sure can, we were lucky enough to buy (just when we started looking) a mild big cube 589ci 10:1CR pump gas wedge motor all fresh and dyno'd for £10k around $13k, went into a 3800lb '69RR which was raced in full street spec inc bench seat full exhausts air cleaner etc. etc., a small older 950DP and driven to track/raced/driven home, its gone a best of 10.35@130 with 1.42 60's on a good day, there's a low 10 in it with one of Doms Thumper carbs, no muffs and a re tune I reckon, it only makes a poultry 680fwhp@6200rpm on track the way its raced, not too bad for a dinosaur.

And don't forget the Olds DRCE block used in current Pro Stockers.

Seems pretty close if the car does indeed weigh 3200 but as stated id better its a bit lighter. Or he is very good at squeexing everything out of that combo, but with that 60' I would say its lighter than 3200.

The incremental from 60-330 is pretty good. 840 corrected HP isn't going to get it done unless its pretty light.
