Were "Sales Bank" cars already built and in a hold area at the Chrysler plant or near by and then cars drawn from that "bank" of vehicles if it matched an order or was needed for a project?

In some cases, yes.

Y16 cars were built through out the year, so some sat while others got delivered right away if there was a 'match'.

Some original owners have reported that the car they 'ordered' showed up at the dealership with one or two items not right. Exact car, but without a radio when they ordered one, that kind of thing.

If they had a close match already built, they would send it.

I have seen a few 'customer ordered' cars that have Y16 on the broadcast sheet.

Thanks Barry. What about in the case of an A12 in early 1969 which were said to be "Sales Bank" 383 cars or at the least the first scheduled 200 - 1000 initially planned for the most part? Did they remove the 383, the standard 4-speed, 8-3/4 diff, the non-"Hemi" suspension (i.e., torsion bars, add a leaf spring or two) or in other words did they "un-build" the Sales Bank cars to add the A12 option package components?

On a Lynch Road Broadcast sheet for 1969 what's the code for a "Sold Car" versus a "Sales Bank" car (in the same block) Is 4 a Sold Car and 6 a Sales Bank.....I know lots of dumb questions but wait there's more to come

(I see the Y and the 1 so I'm playing dumb here, well maybe not )

What's it mean when there are no codes in the "Y" section of the broadcast sheet?

I do not know, I study 1970 models & coding for the most part.

I have seen paperwork for some A12 cars that were actually ordered & the VON was changed from the original dealer paperwork to a Chrysler assigned VON.

I tried talking the person that has them out of them, but no luck.

How many departments in the main assembly plant used a broadcast sheet? I read the Lynch Road Assembly plant story and know about the big one on the front but what about the broadcast sheet the size of the most commonly one found in the seat back, even if it never made it on the car. It seems there many more that size, one in each department except for Body-in-White, paint and rust proofing and......? Anyone know how many (approximately 8-1/2" x 11") broadcast sheets per car where used?

I know of a Lynch Road built Road Runner with 3 different 8 1/2" x 11" Broadcast sheets plus it has one of the huge Final Line Broadcast sheets.
One of the three has a totally different font.

I have heard that 80-85 broadcast sheets were printed for each car in the different departments.

The text at the top 'Chrysler Corporation Car Production Broadcast' quite literally broadcast what was needed to make that particular car to all the sub-assembly areas.

What tires on what wheels, what VIN to put on what color dash, etc, etc.

Each department had its own printer, that is why some sheets have different fonts.

Hey Dave, thanks. Do you know if there is anything different between the three similar size broadcast sheets like something on one or two of them that's missing from the other? Something added or changed or just different between them?

From memory it seems that the Sequential Number was different on all three Broadcast sheets.
I don't recall any other differences other than font. I'd have to have all three of them sitting next to each other to look for anything else.

What's it mean when there are no codes in the "Y" section of the broadcast sheet?

I have a 70 Super Bee with an 11-August of 1969 build date and no codes in the "Y" section. I was told by the original owner that he purchased the car in August of 1970 as a left over, and if memory serves, the car had around 2000-3000 miles on it.

I read somewhere no "Y" code meant the car was ordered for use by a dealership? That doesn't make sense to me as there is a code for dealer demonstrator. Anyone know the real story on the no "Y" code question?

Sales bank, that could explain my 66 Belvedere, it came down the line with no radio but one was hacked in later (someone punched a small hole above hinge for the antenna wire), and looked like tinted glass was added also, no other options.

BeeOrange,

Can you get a closeup photo of your Y section to post? (no need to see the whole sheet)

Some cars were Y14 & Y16 at the same time, and there was not a separate Y code for that.

On the Advance Dealer Shipping Order, both Y codes were called out though, these cars had deposits put down at time of order for lot stock.

y14 and Y16 Y14 Y16.jpg

[align:right][/align]Hi Barry,

Picture of Y code area and a picture of the window sticker. The window sticker is a picture of a photocopy. I think it was a picture of the original though it could have been a reproduction. I did verify the original owner purchased the car in August of 1970 from the dealer listed on the window sticker

Thank you for your help on this

Grace and peace

there is nothing on a fender tag for a '73 'cuda that would indicate it was a Y16 - "sales bank" car

- I have not seen a '73 broadcast sheet that calls it out either shruggy
