Took Ka-Blue-E to track, after a few hits was down 20 pounds after a run. Pulled motor and found a few small issues but nothing hurt too bad.
I think I'll replace bearings and rings. And add top fuel hoops and get away from the Cometic head gasket. Plan on turning it up some if I can get a better material stud. Need the heads refreshed, seem like some excess leakage past the valves.

It's the 1st time it's been out since 2015
Not bad for a 4 second power plant.

What did you find that would cause the pressure loss?

Looked like RTV broke down and got pumped through system. Small pieces from edge of oil pan it looks like. I guess at 7800 the oil was hard on it.

Not bad at all! Hopefully you can find the parts you need and get it back together!

I took some pics of the bearings

I'm surprised the heads are so beat up. I need to get them done asap. MoParty is coming fast.

What weight oil?
What windage and G force controls in the pan?

That would be my guess when its #7 or #8, they are last in the supply line.....Can be a number of reasons. The RTV that the OP suggested is a strong possibility. I am not a guru of oil return science, but I have learned over the years, getting it back to the pan as quick as possible is big insurance against oil starvation. Suppling it is easy, returning it quickly enough is often an issue.

I had to go to an oil accumulater, 3 qt. Next would be some way to monitor the pressure for dips or loss, like a data logger (best) or go pro camera. I also run a large diameter line to the gauge so it responds quickly.

I had some bearings that had splotches like that but were smooth and not torn up at all. Everything I read was that aereation caused it. And sure enough my oil pump pickup broke off in my hand because it was cracked at the threads.

Oddly enough the main bearings were very splotchy and looked horrible but the rods were absolutely mint with zero sign of wear.

I'd look here. It looks like illustration #19 to me. Makes sense based on the fact that there is plenty of load on this engine.

Im not familiar with his pump supply, but finding silicone before the pump would cause cavitation even with a completely sealed pickup.
Pumping aerated oil is no good. Especially in a beast like this.
I also put merit in the link posted by dvw. Either or both could apply in this case.

Best of luck getting it rebuilt in a short time. Isn't this a 'source' crank? What were your bearing clearences? How much boost?

Crank looks good so far. Yes it's a 440 source crank. I'll die check it this weekend but it looks good.

No gray in the pump pickup. It was small pieces that built up in the rod throw oil holes. Had some in the filter as well. You can see the rtv in the oil hole of the crank in pic.

Have a few lifters spread slightly, nothing major but need replaced. All wheels roll sweet still.

About 20 psi. I keep my clearances to myself. I'm not going to give away everything.

3 runs ago was a new best ET at 4.800 4 runs ago was new best MPH at 162. Turning 7600 or so

HolyXXX! I assumed you had a 'short stroke' crank in that??? Like a 3.75" etc?

Here is the gray rtv. It was so small it went through the pickup.

I gave up using RTV long ago because of that,
Almost without exception Permatex red Spray-a-Gasket has kept our engine dry.
