Generally speaking do 1.6 ratio rockers usually fit under stock 440 valve covers or is it flat out "no never"? Thank you.

It'll depend on the profile of the rocker, and what year stock valve covers your using, I got Crane 1.6 arms on my 440, using 70 440 stock valve covers, I had to lose the baffles in the cover to clear the arms/adjusters, some applications you can get by using cover spacers, or dimpling the baffles for clearance, or if you have the room, relocate/reweld the baffles closer to the top of the cover....

Okay I'll figure out soon which I'll be using and what year covers I have up

Are those baffles for rigidity? It's hard to imagine what they are accomplishing so close to the top.

Larry I will be retrofitting a hydroboost system for the extra room since the small booster is now unobtanium.

I thought rockauto had them but now I see its "return and rebuild" so I guess I still need booster. Dang I thought I had this one checked off. I have mounts, oil pan, valve covers and kickdown.

I wish Bouchillon would start selling them again. https://bouchillonperformance.com/inc/sdetail/428/432

I sent them an email asking if they might start and I'm ready to buy.

I have read that some have been able to squeeze in a 440 with the big booster, but I suspect it was with worn out pancaked motor mounts. I don't remember if there is enough room to relocate the big booster closer to the lt fender or not.

To keep the oil from spraying at the air circulation provisions for PVC on one side and the filter on the other side.

Got it Nacho thanks. And I'll dent or drill I guess for the rockers. Marsh performance (Todd) is supposed to be calling me this afternoon up

the baffles keep a majority of the oil flood and mist from the breather[s] and pvc valve. without them, you stand the chance of leaky breathers and ingesting oil through the pvc.
there is no appreciable rigidity to amount involved.

Okay I know I am showing some ignorance here and figured rigidity would have been accomplished differently but they are so close to the top I wasn't sure. Thank you all up

Stock covers are pretty dang rigid, except of course the gasket rails when guys herk the bolts down like they're main caps.
Another interference spot I've experienced was at the shaft hold-downs at the ends.
That and roller rocker clearance is what led me to make the VC spacers, but I couldn't sell enough of 'em to afford making them.
I'd prefer denting the baffles to drilling them, if possible: dents don't create metal debris or slivers that can break off later.
Just cradle the VC & use a punch.

you can also use the extra thick gaskets to gain a little more clearance ...

Is this on an A body or what, Heres a picture of my engine bay and there is plenty of room for the booster. 72 'Cuda.

CudaJohn; my truck is a '79 and they didn't come with BB so I need to get earlier truck booster according to the experts here. It's a very tight fit. up

Btw, had a great conversation with Todd Marsh of Marsh Performance. Seems like a really good and knowledgeable guy! We talked a long time and and put down a good plan and I'm waiting on an invoice from him later in week or beginning of next week. My gut feeling is I'll be going with him to build my engine for truck.
