I’ve heard of good looking results with powder coating on dual snorkel air cleaners but I was wondering if the heat of the oven destroyed the diaphragm on the snorkel. Anyone?

375 to 425 deg F. Think that rubber inside will tolerate that temp?

That’s why I’m asking. I don’t think it’s a good idea but I’m sure someone has tried it.

I doubt the air cleaner diaphragm sees that kind of temp in normal operation.
But I don't know the design or operating limits on that, either.
If it's on a running car, build some temp underhood on a hot day and check it with a heat gun.

May not totally wreck the rubber, but would guess to say would have a neg. effect (shrink it, or such). Best option is to paint those parts with wrinkle paint. Lowest temp I've used for powder coating is 375F, but believe 30 minutes. If you have a spare one, can bake it & see. If not, not worth the risk. I'd doubt it is ever exposed to those temps while in use. One of the pit-falls of P-C on cleaners with diaphragms.

I did a 71 dual snorker and my powder coating guy said that the heat would ruin the pods. So I pained the pods to match.

i can't remember exactly, but i think those are attached by just a couple of tabs that get bent over, retaining the can to the housing.
i don't remember if the tabs are on the cans or the housings.
would it be possible to use a rattle can of wrinkle paint on the cans, then use a heat gun on a somewhat low heat to help the wrinkle effect ?
passing the gun back and forth somewhat quickly "should" help the wrinkle effect without heating the can up to the point of destroying the rubber diaphragm.
just a thought. please correct this if i'm wrong in my thinking.

I powder coated my 1970 twin snorkel. The vacuum pods still work. I don't have them plumbed to the engine anyway, so it wasn't an issue. But, I was curious to see.

Same here. I did mine and they still worked.

For what we used these cars for nowadays, you don't need them.

There's a new line of Powder coatings that are UV cured for items that can't handle the heat curing process that standard powders are cured at, the UV cured powders are also for non conductive components that you may require coated as well...

I won't powder coat anything on the intake side of a motor again after trying it once tsk ONLY once.
The powder coating holds the heat in not allowing the part to cool down like normal down at least it did that on the aluminum intake and M/T valve covers I had done whiney

dont ruin the pods, they are hard to find and $$ when they surface in NOS. I am not sure if they are reproduced yet. be careful. i painted mine with the wrinkle finish and powder coated the rest of the outer dual snorkel. I believe the inside of the housing where the filter sits is black.
