Just looking if there is a company that makes them in this spec.
6AL4V Titanium screw in 1/2" x 20 thread 2" or 3" long.

I know of the Mark Williams 5/8 studs, but those are too big for my application.

You might hit up Rick with the F.A.S.T Firebird...word is that basically his whole car is titanium...including his exhaust system, BTW...

Not surprised on that tricked Bird. Heard he also went F1 on us and had his front rotors made out of carbon fiber.

Why would drag racing organizations ban Ti studs?
Are they too brittle to run on the wheels.

Ti64 has them. Chris the owner is a good guy, did a bunch of work for him.

The ban came after the Antron Brown incident where the lugs failed and the flying wheel killed somebody. Probably the fault of over-torqueing but you know the NHRA....always overreact.

From section 17.7 of the 2010 NHRA Rulebook:
Front wheels meeting SFI Spec 15.2 mandatory. Beadlock 16-inch
rear wheels meeting SFI Spec 15.3 mandatory; inner bead
minimum 14 3/4 inches (+/- 1/8-inch). Wire wheels prohibited. Rearwheel
discs or covers prohibited. Wheels must conform to
applicable tire-manufacturer requirements. Minimum diameter on
front wheels 17 inches. Any modifications and/or lightening
prohibited. Titanium wheel studs prohibited.

Considering the tiny weight loss and the small polar moment, the loss of strength makes this a risk with minimal return.

I'm assuming this is for the rear. Anything going fast enough to benefit from Ti should have 5/8 stuff in it anyway. I like to use it on anything with a spool and/or sticky tires.

I also don't believe the Ti studs are as strong as steel. So if 1/2" steel stuff is marginal to begin with, going to Ti is asking for trouble.

Cadmium plated fasteners will fracture Ti parts. The stuff you learn while around military aviation.

Even those who should know better trip over laws of physics.
Famous test of 3 (then current) Porsche models (1973?).
Brock Yates notices the press handout says "the wheel lugs are aluminum".
Thinking this is a typo, he asks the PR person "WTH?", who answers "Zey are lighter!".

At that point in time, writers dare not mention the fact that trailing throttle oversteer* was still killing Porsche owners....
* enter a turn too fast, back off the throttle, causes fatal oversteer, car loops

Titanium has grades ($$$) stronger then many steels, the real issue I believe is fatigue, its fatigue property is somewhere between Alum and steel, ie it has a finite limited cyclic useful life.
I can't see a useful application for 1/2" Ti studs of any grade.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

If it's a weight issue, I would think there are many other places to save that pound or so cheaper and without hurting reliability. If it's for strength, go to 5/8" stuff.

The driver's weight will vary from day-to-day more than the weight savings of Ti lugs.
