I'm a new owner of a 65 Plymouth Satellite with a 528 Hemi. I'm trying to learn all I can about the Hemi. I was told by the previous owner I have an "Indy Hemi" but I believe I have a Mopar Performance Hemi. I've been reading about these MP Hemi's regarding all the different blocks they came with especially the Cummins block which has not gotten very good reviews to say the least. How can I tell for sure what type of block I have? I DO NOT have the extra frost plugs in the block on either side of the water pump so I think that rules out the "World Block"? This engine was installed in the Satellite about 8+ years ago so if it is a Cummins Block it probably wouldn't have lasted this long.

Here are the casting numbers on the engine: 2468330-M, to the right of this casting is 17 A 1
2

On the front pad I have: 528, G081, 169X, PT

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Thanks
Stu.

They probably mean it was built by Indy. Probably has Indy heads and some other components. A photo would tell more. A 528 would normally be a 4.500" bore and a 4.150" stroke. And yes, that is a Mopar block. Attach a photo and we can tell more.

Welcome to the Hemi world. It's fun.

Cumins did not cast the blocks, they had a contract with Mopar to assemble engines. My first engine build when I was 17 had more attention to detail and clenliness than Cumins put into the 528 that I bought. Nothing wrong with the block other than they over-honed it till a set of new filefit rings had .028 gap out of the box. If Indy did the build, I would have think that that it was done right.

My guess is it's a mega block cast by Motor casting foundry. If it is a siamese block it will have Mopar cast on the block above the number a water block won't. Your block should look like one of these. Like anything there were some bad blocks that got out but there is plenty of good mega blocks being used.

Hard to know who built the engine.

I assume it will be siamese because it's probably 4.500" bore.

Here are some pics of the motor. I have what I believe to be Mopar Aluminum heads as per the Mopar Logo. Yes I have the Mopar Logo stamped above the 2468330-M

The only Indy item on the motor is the intake.

In your professional opinions what do I have? Is it an Indy Hemi or a Mopar Performance Hemi with a Siamese Block? or is the only way to tell for sure is to open it up?

Thanks!
Stu.

It's a Mopar performance Siamese block with mopar performance aluminum heads. Not an Indy hemi. It could have been built by anybody or be a crate. The numbers on the pad where probably stamped by whoever assembled it. If it's 8 years old and still running well it should be fine. A bad block would have eaten itself by now.

Thank you for your opinion and comments, much appreciated! The owner who ordered this engine is "3 owners ago" and I cannot get in touch with him so I'm just trying to figure out what I have.

Thanks again!
Stu.
