First race of the season, got down to 6 cars, won the round, but after that run Kevin noticed some clunking on the return road. Listen to it and I said ring gear is missing a few teeth. Sure enough, 2-1/2 were gone. I installed these standard Richmond 4.10 gears 10 years ago, and after a few hundred runs they decided to let go. Granted, the car was going 10.30's on bias tires at the start, now its going 9.90's on radials (switched to radials last year). Car is a 64 Dodge Polara, NSS, 493 RB motor, about 720 HP, 727 footbrake trans, 4200 stall, weighs about 3600 w/ driver, 1.39-1.40 60ft. So, go with Pro Gears or the regular street gears? Thoughts?

Motive, US Gear and Richmond show a 4.10 pro gear. Don't know if I'd use a Richmond though.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

It does look like pro gears would be a good idea.
If you do go to pro gears and keep the same 4.10 ratio, you'll need the spool that's normally used for 4.56 and lower gears.

A few hundred runs on that old street gear - they don't owe you anything. I would be fine with a Motive or US Gear. What I've seen the last few years, Richmond would not be a good choice.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look for a US Pro gear. We are already running the series 5 carrier.

Nice pattern on those gears, they didn't fail from a bad setup that's for sure.
Just mentioning what you probably already know, but might want to have a look at the tranny sprag. Last time i broke gears it got my sprag too. Gears never failed completely during the run. Actually won the round; heard some noise on return road. Tranny has a LBA valve body and 16 element sprag.

I remember Nick Wilson (compu-flow) told me his 64 Plymouth had a used 4.10 from a pickup. Nick ran 9.40's @ 3600lbs. And he was never easy on it. RIP Nick
