Dont lock out the cam timing and ignore whatever your reading and stick the 6.4 cam in, I have done it and it works great.

You are most likely seeing specs for an early 2008 and older 5.7 hemi. The 2009+ 5.7 uses the same style camshaft as a 6.4 does. The 6.1 cam will not fit any 5.7 2009 or newer.

Dave if he's using it in a Non VVT application he should lock it straight up, And like Dave has said the 6.4SRT cam in the 5.7 , is great starting place. and you can't beat the price.

I am so thankful for this forum - answers straight from those with the experience.
ric - greatly appreciate the thread. I tried to use the search feature but I obviously failed miserably.
Dave - I'll follow your advice. I'm sure this won't be the last issue I run into.
ghinmi - One of the publications I'm using is New Hemi Engines: How To Build Max Performance by Larry Shepard (SA 404). My confusion was from the Common Camshaft Journal Specs chart on page 62. Your explanation makes perfect sense when the year break (early vs VVT cams) is considered - but that's not what the chart says. I will send the author a note to address the confusion.
Again, thank you to everyone for your assistance and willingness to share your knowledge.
