As said I think one of your parts houses has rebuilt ones for cheap (advance auto, exchange iirc) & hookup the can is a good plan (to ported if available) but many people say manifold is the way to go (takes a different approach) then spend some time dialing in the dist subsystems (in order) as there is alot of gain to be had.

If the truck has Lean Burn, the distributor has two pickups inside.

I need to replace the distributor in a 87 pick-up with a 318. The distributor that is in it has no vacuum advance on it. It does have the vacuum line that goes to the control module on the fender to control the vacuum advance. My question is can I use a distributer with the vacuum advance on it and just leave the vacuum actuator capped off on the distributor or do I need to find a distributer with out it like the one thats in it? You need the right distributor. I suspect the first pic is what you already have. The second pic is what you could use to eliminate the computer system. Similar to this one at Summit linky. Robert

by 87 replacing lean burn is more complicated than just putting in another distributor. Carb needs replaced as well.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.
