I had/have a 15 gallon Triangle Engineering fuel cell that when I was removing an AN fitting from it the last three threads on the fitting destroyed themselves and the first three threads of the bung in the fuel cell.

I am now looking at replacements and saw these on eBay...
Fuel cell

My question is does anyone have experience with these? Worth the gamble or no? I really like the aluminum one I had but unless it can have the bad bung welded up I see no likelihood of saving it.

You should be able to get yours repaired provided you can find someone that can do it without blowing themselves up but it will likely be a wash money wise.

I do try to use antiseize on anything aluminum and my experience is often the same as the gentleman below:

Start blowing air through it.. once you cant
smell fuel you can cut off the fittings that
are galled and weld on new ones.. I weld alum
so its cheap for me.. if you have foam in it
pull that out before welding.. to weld the fittings
on is pretty quick
EDIT
Make sure the tank is clean.. no paint

Can you drill and tap the bung for a larger size thread?

I have considered this but not sure what size I would go to, I think it has 10AN to maybe 1/2"NPT bungs in it already

LOL where were you 15 years ago? It did have thread tape on it but that clearly didn't help it

So do I not have to use thread sealer on the NPT side of these fittings? Fuel tank, regulator and pump are all aluminum bodied

I didn't see where you mentioned the cell had ever had fuel in it. You could install a bulkhead fitting I suspect elsewhere and just plug and epoxy the partial threads left over and skip the welding solution.

The fuel cell link sounds/looks decent, almost priced too low, makes me wonder as if it's up to expected standards.

Who will go first? grin

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Both of my aluminum fuel cells have 1/2" NPT . A 1/2 " bulkhead fitting might be the best way to go. Tapping to 3/4"NPT would be questionable on how much material there would be left to tap.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead
