How hard is it to replace the steering box with a rebuilt one? is there any kind of alignment that needs to be done? does fluid need to be flushed out or can you just replace the gear box and start it up? I dont know much on the things that may need to be done ....should I have a shop replace it instead?? Thanks in advance.....

If you have a few tools and no headers its nor terrible.Yes flush the systeNot much to that just drain the pump when unit is off and hoses disconnected. You will need a pitman arm puller and have to remove the pot coupler.Id pour some clean fluid thur the pum when its off.Should just bolt right in where the old one came off.Been doing it for years so its easy for me.Rocky

A1 Cardone = crap with a shiny paint job
After doing it once you will hate doing it again.

Can you tell exactly where it is leaking? From what you just said, it will be a lot easer, and cheaper to buy a seal kit, and have someone that knows how just reseal the one you have than trying to remove and replace it. For one thing the steering column will have to be either removed, or dropped and slid back a little. For instance, if it's leaking from the bottom, that seal can be replaced from the bottom.

It"s at the shop now....I'll have to check to see if they can replace seals instead....checked around and non are available right now unless you go to Year One or Summit which want 5-600 with core and return shipping....Advance Auto or CariD are saying Mid May or later.....Thanks for all the advice....Tony

Be sure to remove the nipple fitting, (2) 1/4 in. bolts where the return line attaches to the box. If not you will surely break it when you try to get the box down and out. If you decide to replace it I think you will be happy with firm feel stage 3.
