Recently the "R/T" emblem was discussed, but I didn't see where it came up. Looking for the location of the script "Challenger" emblem on the fender for a 71 challenger that has the R/T stripe. I have a copy of the factory drawing that shows the R/T emblem placement. But off that drawing I'm not able to figure out the script emblem placement. I'll assume you have this factory print?, if so it won't help with the "lone" 71 Challenger script/emblem with stripe pkg

I "played" ![sawzall sawzall](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/sawzall.gif) with these two drawings a little ![scope scope](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/scope.gif) it looks like the '70 "Challenger" script is .16" forward compared to '71 it looks like the '70 "Challenger" script is 5.00" above the '71 placement interesting ![no no](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/no.gif) the '71 "R/T" placement makes NO mention of with or without stripes or body side mouldings what is a practical reference to the "0" lines? front to back ![work work](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/work.gif) engine/transmission parting line? bottom to top ![work work](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/work.gif) centerline of crankshaft? left to right ![whistling whistling](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/whistling.gif) center of car any comments/clarifications?

what is a practical reference to the "0" lines?
any comments/clarifications?
Generally any reference to the "Zero/O" line in the Architectural/drafting/machine part print/etc world is in regard to a 'draftsman's SCALE ruler' (those triangular/3 sided white scale rulers) the "Zero/O" reference line (the "zero" starting line on the scale desired that your measurements will be based on) will vary depending on the print scale deployed, and will be located at different points on the various rule's scales depending on what scale was chosen

It does references a point in space measured from 0,0 but also has a scale of 1 inch. A Challenger fender emblem is ~7 inches in length which is close to the sum of the dims. But lets try to put this to sleep since we really don't know where 0,0 is on a car. So... We (or I) know where an emblem goes on a F series (70). The bottom of the "G" is ~1" above the body line. Since 71s are 5" lower (thanks Dan) it then should be 4" below the body line. That places the "C" (passenger side) ~4" from the edge of the fender, but the drawing shows it's offset 0.16" from the reference. So that means the passenger emblem would be 3.84" to the "C" from the fender edge and 4" to the bottom of the "g" from the body line.

Stick them on where you think they look best. Unless someone turns up a picture of the car the day it turned up at the dealers, how can anyone tell you the emblems are in the wrong place? Agreed, I'm sure no 2 cars are "surgically exact" in this regard, as it was an adhesive backed decal, there may have been a mask used on the assy. line to generalize location? or it may have been up to the individual working the line that day as to where it was placed

Plus if they had a template I wouldn't be surprised if they mixed up left and right. I have two Challengers with their original hoods. They should have three holes for the engine call out (one 440 SIXPACK and the other 426 HEMI) yet they both have 4 holes because they used the wrong template on the wrong side and had to add a hole.
