John Hagen had a low deck Hemi in his pro stock arrow. (The car killed him, unfortunately) It was a 383 block with the bosses for the intake port head studs welded onto the block.

Before NHRA went to the 500" format in pro stock, Gen 2 hemi heads on a 383 block at 387-390 ci went faster than anything else at the time. Stage V used to offer a head that would bolt right on a wedge pattern block, not sure if any of that stuff is still around. FHO just had a new set come in from stage v that he was cnc porting

Those are some cool old pics KDY!
Even at the B deck they were still too tall, but better. Shorter pistons are lighter, shorter pushrods are stiffer, etc., another inch shorter deck would have been a nice package.
I know a guy that worked on a 370" BBC pro stock deal that had the entire deck removed, the block shortened, then the deck surface furnace brazed back on. Crazy stuff, but if you couldn't find what you wanted, you made it yourself.
