What are you trying to accomplish with the Vehicle besides the pinging. What 2.4 is in the P.T. Is it a P.T. with a turbo, is it auto or stick. Why do you think it is a problem with the Heads.
You can buy cams, not cheap, they were just reissued. You can buy an aftermarket computer and a tune. How much money to you want to spend and willing to spend.

1st, if you unplug the knock sensor it will go into limp mode and have NO timing advance. The ECM controls timing and when the knock sensor "feels" knock the ECM retards timing. Second your just wasting your time and money on that motor/car in my opinion. As stated a turbo is the only thing to do and you need all the stuff not just the hair dryer...
