What are you trying to accomplish with the Vehicle besides the pinging. What 2.4 is in the P.T. Is it a P.T. with a turbo, is it auto or stick. Why do you think it is a problem with the Heads.

You can buy cams, not cheap, they were just reissued.
You can buy an aftermarket computer and a tune.
How much money to you want to spend and willing to spend.

just want a little more hp
non turbo auto
no engine mods just yanking head to do timing belt and check cyls-real easy stuff
what cam numbers willing to spend 500 bux

i will design something to richen up mixture to lower ping, dont want to retard timing maby fool o2 or air sensors to .35 volt toseem lean.

Alcohol/water injection would probably cure the ping.

If your engine has a knock sensor this may be a sign that it isn't working.

I think the real answer is "turbo" but that may be a little much for your budget.

Another possibility is lower intake and exhaust restrictions.

Changing cam timing too much may get you driveability issues.

I GOT TO PLAY WITH KNOCK SENSOR -WILL UNPLUGGING IT ADVANCE IT DEFAULT?

1st, if you unplug the knock sensor it will go into limp mode and have NO timing advance. The ECM controls timing and when the knock sensor "feels" knock the ECM retards timing. Second your just wasting your time and money on that motor/car in my opinion. As stated a turbo is the only thing to do and you need all the stuff not just the hair dryer...

Replacing the timing belt on that car is a real chore due to the almost non existent space between passenger side inner fender and engine, but you probably know that already. I have owned two PT's (2001 and 2010), neither had any problem with pinging.

If you want more power, fix your ping issue, then sell the PT. If you think doing anything is going to up your power level, you will be dumping good money for nothing. With the auto it's going to be a dog regardless. Best bang for your buck - sell it and buy a PT Turbo or something else with more power.
