Call the guys Dynamic Converter, or Lenny at Ultimate converters and outline your combo and intent, either of these companies should be able to get you into the right converter. There's a few others that will be suggested here as well. I run a Dynamic 9-1/2" converter that was custom built for my combo, and it has performed great for a few years now. I'd use these guys again, but most here tend to speak real high Lenny.

I am with Stealth I ran a 509 cam in a 440 daily driver strip car , they love comp - stall - gear I had a 4200 originally with 3.9 gears , got a Dynamic 9 1/2 (5100) then 4.10 gears . Kept going faster . Even with the stroker I would not look under 4000 and a bit more gear . my 2 cents

With your combo and intended usage, you would have been better posting this in question and answer because a lot of people that frequent this part of the site are in the "too much is just right" category. If it is mostly street use and possible long runs i wouldn't go over 3000 stall and use the 3.23 gears, the extra cubes will swallow a lot of the .509's dur up. Mick

You will definitely have to stress your preference's to the converter builder for this car. Stress what rpm you are willing to allow for cruise speed. He should be able to build you a unit that you are happy with, and not have to send it back to change the stall.

Put your motor on a dyno, go to your favorite convertor guy, give him the dyno sheet, AND the info on your car, weight, gear, tire. Dave

Had a off the shelf 10" ATI behind the 493" for years. Run 3.55s and a 30" tall tire. Great street manners, would drive like normal just about until you punched it, and would flash to ~4000+ rpm
Switched to a 9 1/2 Dynamic spec'd for it, and it picked up a little at the track, but the street manners suffered a bit.
