What type do you prefer? and why?
the heat sink type? or the traditional tube and fin style?

B & M supercooler (IIRC). tube and fin - 6 hoses. Worked well for the 727 behind a 850ish hp 572 more strip than street. Can be purchased with fan if my memory is good.

Hayden builds MOST of the coolers on the market.. they
make the B&M super coolers also... I prefer the tube
and fin style

Wow! 157 views and only 2 replies? I guess there aren't many opinions on trans coolers. Thanks to those who replied

X3 on the Supercooler. the tube & fin is more restrictive, the supercooler is more efficient @ dispersing heat, especially with a fan connected to it

On this page you can see what the different coolers
are for and how much they cool.. and their purpose
EDIT
all these things are is a heat exchanger... the more fins
you have contacting the tubes the more heat is pulled
off.. until you start loosing the air flow across
the fins.. if the plate style is so good WHY isnt
a radiator made this way... the plate has its place
and its used for engine oil... the fins on a plate
are much thicker(less per inch).. a lot of times guys
use what they buy without really knowing what to buy
or were told that it works good... but if you dont
try BOTH you wont know which is better... I can say
I have tested both... and if you follow the Hayden
direction you wont be sorry.. by the way.. when I
say "tested" that was at work and on my own junk with
thermocouples on the inlet and outlet to measure the
temp drop.. if I still had my data I would post it
but I threw it away years ago

""""""""Over 14 million transmissions fail every year, 9 out of 10 from
overheating. Every 20°F drop in operating temperature can double oil and equipment life"""""""

.....BUT ..... in a race car operation ... cooling the ATF too much kills the stall. I had a Bud that ran a J converter on a street car with as short a gear as a 2.9.....with ONLY a rad-tank-cooler .....

He never toasted the ATF in the many years he ran it....

DO what you want... but I guess you dont warm up
your trans... when a trans has been warmed up in
the morning its good all day... so I'm sure it cooled
some... and I dont buy you idea if its tooo cold

Not my idea P-Guy .... it was a long-ago bud that worked at CTC. And I ran several cars myself with some real small coolers. NEVER toasted any ATF myself either.

The last race car only I had a side mounted Hayden swirl-cooler .... the smallest they made. During one slow day at Detroit Dragway .... I made 33 passes IN A ROW ... non stop except for fuel

That was with a mild 383 in that Bantam roadster.

slippage in OD... but I have only run a few 150 mile runs
so far as my long distance runs.. about 600 miles

I think I remember him saying that the temp(measured right off the converter) would spike at about 320 when staging ...

NOT sure what brand F-type ATF it was ... but it was a good name-brand.
