So it looks like I'll be removing a trans this weekend. It was supposed to have had a new stage three clutch in it I guess we'll see.
Allow me to preface this with the statement that I know almost nothing about SRT-4's.
Years ago I had a neighbor that had a Honda CVCC that would not move. Supposedly a friend changed the clutch and it did not help. Since I owed her some favors I told her I'd look at it. The clutch in that car was hydraulically operated, but did have provisions for adjustment at the fork. That was the only problem and it took me maybe 5 minutes to fix it. It had sat for years prior.
Never assume the last "mechanic" in there had a clue.
If it was the clutch hydraulic slave cyl not working or the cable broke he could not put the trans in any gear with the eng running as it would be like putting and normal woking manual trans car in gear without pushing the clutch in. Which as we know is not going to happen. But I am sure the owner as we all do is appreciate your input.
Let us know how you make out. Ron

If the clutch is engaged and the wheel is turning, you should not be able to grab the wheel, let alone stop it. Your trouble is most definately clutch related. I would first try to adjust it. If that is a no go you probably need a new clutch. Never believe what the seller told you, unless a trusted friend. Good luck and let us know how things turn out.
I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.

You need both axles in and held to tell if it is internal the differential will allow the spider gear that is not engaged to an axle to spin and you wont be able to tell without both axles engaged

One other poster with the bad third gear, You are going to need to buy a transmission. All the parts to rebuild the transmission are either on back order or no longer serviced. Third gear pop out is a common problem with these transmission and that is why we have stocked up on them for the three cars we have. Now the poster has to tell a little more on what he has tried with the axles. Is it in gear or not when testing. Will it go into gear while running and still will not move. Will it go into gear when it is not running. Post all what you have done on one post.

Also for future reference, this guy - Tim Zimmer - is local to me and does nothing but rebuild Getrag transmissions for DSM/Talon/Eclipse/Laser, Stealth/3000GT, and SRT4s. He can get parts, knows what he is doing, and is very reasonably priced. www.tmzperformance.com
